Parental Involvement
Parental involvement in HISD is being cultivated district-wide and is based on building a public-support infrastructure, school by school, through the accomplishment of three separate but connected goals:
1. Establish effective parental-communication program.
2. Establishing an effective community-outreach program.
3. Establishing an effective public-relations program.
Experience has shown that when parents become more involved in their children's education, the children
• experience greater success achievement
• develop a sense of pride, self-esteem, and self-discipline
• are more likely to enter college
• become better school citizens
• have positive attitudes toward school and the future
Our Parent Engagement Specialist builds a districtwide public-support infrastructure through effective parental communications, community outreach, and public relations. There are 14 Parent Engagement Centers serving parents throughout the district.
The Parent Engagement Specialist play a leading role in coordinating parent services at these centers.
• Parent Engagement Specialists support schools in their efforts to develop strategies to promote parent involvement.
• Parent Centers provide educational resource materials, parenting workshops, volunteer opportunities and networking opportunities for HISD parents.
• GED and ESL classes are available in some Parent Centers.

Department of Parent Engagement
Here to strengthen the relationship between parents and schools through mutual trust, collaboration, training, and effective communication to ensure the academic and personal success of all HISD students.
HISD parent involvement activities consistent with the district's core value: "Parents Are Partners." Parent Engagement Specialists, VIPS, Parent Leadership Initiatives, Even Start, Investment Capital Fund, and other special-funded programs are coordinated by this HISD department.
