November was American Heritage Month in HISD.  American Heritage Month is the time during which HISD celebrates all that unites the people of our great country.  Special emphasis is placed on the U.S. Constitution and other founding documents that establish the fundamental rights and liberties guaranteed to all Americans.

The theme of this year’s observance is “E Pluribus Unum – Out of Many, One.”  E Pluribus Unum, the first motto of the United States, was created for use on the Great Seal of the United States.  The designers of the Great Seal intended the motto to represent the unity of the original thirteen states.  Today it has come to symbolize the unity of all Americans.

The HISD Social Studies Curriculum for all grades includes objectives and instructional considerations that support American Heritage Month.  Additionally, online resources for teachers are posted on the Social Studies Curriculum web site at www.hisdsocialstudies.org.
